Just a glimpse into the complex simplicity of the enigma that is the Crown Family.

Melbourne War Memorial (cont'd)

A War Memorial isn't a good war memorial without the perpetual flame. I like how this is set up. And by the way, whilst the days were for the most part beautiful winter/spring days, it was FLIPPIN cold!! So the heat from the flame was actually very welcome.

This building sits up on the hill. Pride and place. And the humility and humbleness I spoke of earlier starts to really get you the closer you get to it.

I thought this was just a cool touch. The patches of grass in between the paving stones.

"Let all men know that this is holy ground. This shrine established in the hearts of men as on the solid earth commemorates a people's fortitude and sacrifice. Ye therefore that come after give rememberance."

Melbourne War Memorial

On a recent business trip to Melbourne, I found myself with a little freetime to explore the area around Dorcas St (where I was staying at the Quest! - Very nice accomodation btw!!)

PS. That's the big tall one in the middle! Niiice

I discovered the Melbourne War Memorial. Or Victorian - not quite sure what it's called, probably Victorian...

ANYWHO, I was extremely impressed. And as I've taken a leaf out of freefalling's photograph book, I had my camera with me on this trip so I went adventuring.

Here's just a taste of what it was like, the true feeling of humility and humbleness can't be given in mere pictures or words. You'd have to be there to feel it.

There were a few of these trees in the parklands area and they just stood out so strikingly against the late afternoon sky I couldn't resist.

At the base of pretty much every single established tree in this memorial gardens has a plaque of some kind with a commemorative plate on it. Nearly each one I saw had a poppy next to it or in it's branches or something of the like.

Then there were the park benches. I like this one cos it recognises the ladies.

I came to a conclusion during my walk....I hate war....
